CITY OF INDIAN WELLS

INDIAN WELLS COUNTRY CLUB

                                            Indian Wells History

The history of Indian Wells is believed to be have started around 1823.  After the discovery of the Captain Jose Romero expedition diaries the history was documented along with the name of the area, Indian Wells.   In 1863 the area changed with discovery of gold in the the Colorado River.

The growth of Indian Wells became important as it became a stop for stagecoaches and railroads.  In 1906 Edinton Ed or Endless Ed as he was called, robbed the cavalry at the Indian Wells station and prevented soldiers from getting their pay.

The residential section of Indian Wells started to grow around 1913.  Using the Civil War grant early settlers used the rights to homestead land.  The first land to be developed is now the Indian Wells Country Club and the Eldorado Country Club.
